Revelation 3:14 - Beginning or Ruler? Here is how to show Jehovah's Witnesses that Revelation 3:14 is saying Jesus is the "Ruler" of the creation, not its "beginning" as they claim.

Jehovah's Witness - Revelation 3:14 says that Jesus is "the beginning of the creation by God": "To the angel of the congregation in La·o·di·ceʹa write: These are the things that the Amen says, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation by God."

Christian - "Beginning" here is how they translated the original Greek word "archē," which is defined in this page. Could you please read for us its definition and usage in the left column?
Jehovah's Witness - "Definition: beginning, origin. Usage: (a) rule (kingly or magisterial), (b) plur: in a quasi-personal sense, almost: rulers, magistrates, (c) beginning."

Christian - So archē also refers to "ruler," and this isn't new to us because archē is in the English word "archangel," which means "ruling angel." So do you see how this verse could just as easily be translated to say that Jesus is the "ruler" of the creation?
Jehovah's Witness - Yes. (If he asks you for additional evidences, pull up this page and show him how it is translated as "'ruler" in the CEB, CJB, ERV, ICB, NCV and NIV.)
